Liverpool, Arsenal to fight for German Defender

January 3 2011 3 Commented

Recent news hits the headlines of sports websites that Liverpool as well as Arsenal may soon go head to head for Per Mertesacker, the German defender’s signature.

The Gunners have also been linked to Chris Samba, the defender of Blackburn, and also to Mertesacker. Now, it seems as if for Arsene Wenger the transfer window has been opened to step in his chase for the Werder defender. It is learned that the Wenger has tabled a bid of £8.5 million, but more than £10 million is being looked forward by Bundesliga club.

The interest of Roy Hodgson is also very clear. He had Liverpool director of football strategy Damien Comolli who advised last month the the club would hand over the money and make his signing a priority.

Jamie Carragher is presently injured with shoulder injury and is out of field. This makes sense that Mertesacker would surly be taking the defence of Liverpool and he would certainly be a great addition to the Reds squad.

  1. What arsenal need now is highly experienced centre back and a strong defensive midfieder to serve as a backup for ALEX SONG.though i dont know much 4rm this man, wenger always discover the best players but to spend the money is the problem. Arsene wenger pls act fast and find solution to the defence, delay might be dangerous 4 the team. Please spend this money!!! !!! !!! !!! !!!

i believe Wilshere will eventually become our holding midfielder, replacing Song. He reminds me so much of Xavi, and that type of player would be so valuable to ARsenal. This will allow Ramsey to play alongside Cesc, giving us some true firepower in the attacking mid position, capable of scoring shots from distance.
