Lucrative Overseas Pre-season Tour To Be Taken By Arsene Wenger
Arsenal directors are contemplating to move Arsenal ahead in the world in terms of money and fame as the leading shareholder Stan Kroenke will try to convince manager Arsene Wenger to try something at the club’s next board meeting later this month.
The issue was already discussed before in the meeting last year but Wenger was unwilling to take any initiative as the players had gone for the World Cup. Nevertheless, Wenger is now planned to tour when the international tournaments are not on the cards.
There will be a gain in terms of money in overseas tours, and other benefits include a wider fan base in different part of the world.
The new Uefa regulations on ‘financial fair-play’ implies the ranking of European clubs will be influenced by the clubs who can earn by expanding their revenue streams.
The issue would resolved before this year and Asia and the Middle East are considered seriously for tours. Arsenal has links to the United States through Kroenke’s Colorado-based portfolio of sports teams.
When asked earlier this year about the issue, Wenger said that the advantages should stretch beyond immediate financial considerations.
Vito Mannone expressed his disappointment over being overlooked as the two goalkeepers Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski performed not up to the mark.
“I get annoyed when I don’t play, it’s not as if the other two do that well,” he said.
