Arsenal Goalkeeper Manuel Almunia To Miss Champions League
Lukasz Fabianski will substitute Gunners main goalkeeper Manuel Almunia for London club’s European Champions League clash against Partizan Belgrade as the star goalkeeper is suffering from a major elbow injury.
In a recent match against West Bromwich Albion where Arsenal was defeated 3-2. In the match match where the goalkeeper was blamed for two of the goals but saved a penalty.
The recent defeat has added speculation about the future of Spanish star in Arsenal. The media already speculate whether Mr. Wenger would replace his goalkeeper anyway for the match in Serbia. Almunia was under scrutiny during his stint at the Emirates for six years, following some mistakes on the field.
However, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger ruled out all speculation and said the goalkeeper was out due to injury.
“The keeper is always the easy scapegoat,” Wenger told reporters after the match. “But we win together and lose together.”
In another side Manchester United confirmed Tuesday that striker Wayne Rooney wouldn’t be available for the trip to Spain for the Champions League tie against Valencia on Wednesday.
Manager Alex Ferguson told in official website that the injury was minor but the 24 year-old star was not fit enough for the big match.
Rooney is recently under the media coverage for his struggling private life and lost the form since the World Cup. He was also unavailable against the match Everton recently.
