The Italian side have announced the following statement on their official website.

(Please click here to read the statement in it’s original Italian text)

” In case the footballer has already reached an agreement with any club, the release clause fixed with the player himself is 25 million euros. We would not contemplate any exchange, unless it is to the liking of Fiorentina.

“Arsenal is the only club to have come close to the sum established by the release clause.

“Fiorentina in turn proposed to the aforementioned club a reduction in the amount set by the release clause by including right-back (Emmanuel) Eboue in the deal.”

Melo only signed a new deal at his current club a few days ago, and despite initial belief that it may have quashed speculation on a move elsewhere, it appears that was a move to inflate business profits on the player for Fiorentina should he depart.

The agent of the newly crowned Cofederations Cup champion with Brazil also reiterated earlier today that his client is poised for a move to Arsenal.

Claudio Pasqualin suggests Melo has a ‘Plan B’ of ensuring he jumps ship to north London this summer.

He said: “Melo’s transfer is quite possible,” claimed Pasqualin.

“After all, the buy-out clause of 25million euros is accessible and if it was valid straight away I think that someone would think seriously about it.

Melo’s attributes are similar to that of Arsenal’s own Denilson but the new Brazilian national team regular is arguably a better option than Wenger’s often choice of a deep-lying midfielder last season.

Neither players are typical Gattuso-esque combative midfielders but as similar this samba duo may be, one is in fact more advanced than the other. Melo possesses more height, physicality and stronger attacking intent than Denilson.

From a very opinionated perspective, Denilson is simply a ‘poor man’s’ Melo.

  2. GunnerTom says:

Wait, what? Are you telling me that we could’ve signed Melo if we’d let them have Eboue?
    AND WE DIDN”T DO IT!?!?!
WHAT?!? That would’ve been an awesome trade!
I know he fills in well for Sagna when he is hurt, but now that we have Vermaelen, we don’t need him as much anymore. Plus, we REALLY don’t need him at RM.

  3. Gerald says:

If these statements are true, then I’m confident we’ll win the league next season. In Wenger we trust. Now get Naldo, Wenger.

Was about to do my weekend shopping when this item dropped in. YOu should see the spark in my eyes right now. Quickly of to the mall to impress the ladies with my smile. Okay, MILFS than.

  5. Amazing! Let’s hurry for Melo

  6. Marko says:

Forget Naldo. Sign Zapata or Tasci and sell Silvest and Ade and bring in Chamakh and then we’d be sorted for next season. Fact

  7. LB says:

Melo is nothing like Denilson. He’s true deeplying midfielder like Gilberto, rarely crosses the halfway line. He’s strong on the ball and a far better passer than Denilson. By way of comparison he’s more like our old Edu, but more defensive, than Denilson. Denilson is NOT a defensive midfielder by any definition. He’s a poor man’s Fabregas. Melo would take Arsenal over the achievement hump for sure. Stunning player.
