A must see tribute to Robin van Persie

Robin van Persie’s contract renewal on Wednesday marked a promise for the future and as he remarked, he will definitely serve us his “best years” in coming seasons.

The Dutchman has come a long way since becoming a Gunner in 2004. Ferocious efforts, thunderbolt strikes, flying volleys, we have seen them all.

That talent had been hampered by footballers’ biggest nemesis, injuries. One certainty was that Van Persie would always show not just a glimpses but well-staged moments of brilliance.

We always knew he had it for every campaign, but Robin only gave a few moments to savor.

It was all until last season, when Arsenal’s cunning Dutch import proved durable for the stretch of a season for once.

Such contributions would be 20 goals in just over twice as many appearances with various assists and for the nearly-man that he is, Van Persie also added more numbers to his count of times he hit the woodwork.

Nonetheless, 63 goals in 177 appearances so far (which makes him the club’s all-time top scorer in the current squad) epitomizes the fact that Van Persie has made his own difference at this club.

So, what he deserves – a well compiled video tribute.

IMO, V.Persie had a major, major breakthrough last year. We all know how technically gifted he is since he first arrived. But not only was he able to stay relatively healthy last year, but he finally stepped up and made himself accountable as one of the leaders of the team, coming up big when the team needed him. I had been very critical of him up until last season for shying away from the burden of being a go-to guy on the team. For the rest of the summer- please keep the squad together for the most part, but send Adebayor to Milan for Flamini and 20 mil. That solves basically all of our problems with one move: we get a DM who has proven he can do the job effectively, we finally close the book on the Adebayor speculation/distraction, and we get 20 mil to spend on a new striker or top class CB. As a big added bonus, it keeps Fabregas happy- as Flamini was not only a great partner on the field but one of his closest friends. Done. I would be more than happy with that off-season.

    Tribute? Is he dead?

  3. jimmy says:

one of only a few players that arsenal have that has genuine class and quality, deservers to have better players around him

  4. Randy Osae says:

Lanikan – I’m sorry to say this, but you’re very ignorant.

Tribute is any sort of forged praise for a person.

Just because you hear tributes being given to the deceased does not mean that’s what it’s meant for. It’s just society being assholes and waiting for the person to die first before they praise.

Tribute in general is complimenting and NOT just an act at a funeral.

    Learn more son!

Randy- I think he was joking!
jimmy- quiet down son, the best thing about the summer is we get far less of miserable sods like you moaning at every oportunity. Do players like Arshavin, Fabregas, Nasri, Rosicky, Eduardo, Gallas and Sagna have no class or quality? Or are you just an idiot?

Quality video (although shame about the uber-cheesy music!) for a quality player.

  6. gomey says:

ball bags music but a fine compilatation. persie persie!!

  7. KingKolo says:

Fingers crossed Van P can stay fit all season. He is up there as one of our better players. I just hope Adebayor or Bendtner would get envious of him and get the goals to rival Van P.

  8. jalla says:

Great work on the video, glad he signed a new contract! He is essential for our club!!

  9. keeming says:

no doubt vp is class. but it often looks as if its 10 vs 1 on his own upfront. his shooting is powerful but predictable, his passing is erratic. Nice to have around but definitely much more room for improvement.

    Long way to go dude!

    @ Hugo
arshavin and farbregas are the other two that i had in mind when i mentioned in “only a few”… barring that eduardo, nasri, sanga, and clichy all have the potential to be world beaters, but gallas??? are you for real? Rosicky… he’s a good player, and ive always liked him, but before he went to dortmund for 18 million he was considered to be one of the best prospects/players in europe and he flopped there, and since he’s been at arsenal his injuries have meant that we havent been able to see what he’s really capable of…

    BEST VIDEO EVER…
    STAY GOONERISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Randy Osae says:

keeming – Cheers for finally not leaving a spam comment about Kolo Toure. ;-)

  13. goldsoundz says:

    @Jimmy
Rosicky hardly “flopped” at Dortmund…. they just couldn’t afford to keep him anymore. Although he is clearly on the downslide, Gallas is still an excellent CB- even though he is no longer in the elite category.

I said how’s foxsoccer and lane?

  15. goldsoundz says:

I hardly go on fox, randi- especially after the new format changes have made posting difficult. I spend most of my time on theregulars shooting the shit. Hardly see Lane these days….
