Well there is Chelsea (we know that), Manchester City (who doesn’t know that?) and “one other team”. Kia Joorabchian says.

City are reportedly in “pole” position to wrap up the deal, but it is tough to read too much into that. After all, Manchester’s richest have been in pole position to recruit the entire Tottenham Hotspur squad.

Tevez’s advisor primarily insists there is a third offer on the table which is to contest that of Mark Hughes and Carlo Ancelotti, but he will need pigs to fly to force him into revealing whoever made that a trio of Tevez demanders.

That underlines the imagination here. Could, just could Arsene Wenger be the shy bidder for this superb Argentine talent?

Any possibilities? Well…

1. Wenger has for long been on the trail of Carlos since his days at Boca Juniors and Corinthians. Arsenal’s chief once sensationally admitted Tevez had been on his radar until his chase was ceased when Alex Ferguson came calling for the 25-year-old in the summer of 2007.

2. Arsenal Football Club is notoriously famous for preferring to be anonymous buyers in the transfer market until the selling club just refuses to help but let the business be transparent. It is one strictly obeyed policy of the club which Marseille and Zenit’s negotiators decline to respect once the transfer saga stresses for an eternity.

3. If, and IF Arsenal will ever cash in on Emmanuel Adebayor this summer, then a replacement has to be lined up. You cannot be too skeptical about a bet on the lanky Togolese’s departure.

After all, Ronaldo’s eventual pursuit of a life-long dream and fortune at Real Madrid did come to a successful end weeks ago. And so can Adebayor’s dream of a Milan move or £500,000-a-week wage elsewhere (whether being at Chelsea or Leeds United) come true.

His creditable agent Stephen Courbis revealed yesterday that a ‘very important team’ had made contact about the striker. What’s your gut feeling then?

Those above, are what a swoop for Tevez hinges on.

But this below, may be why it is just wishful thinking to suggest Arsene Wenger is hot on the heels of the man they dub  ‘Carlitto’.

1. It took some divine persuasion for Arsene to cough up £12-16 million for Andrey Arshavin even at a time when the squad was clearly calling for the Russian’s services. At a time when Wenger’s squad only cries for help at the back not up front, try to convince the boss to organize that £25 million fund Tevez’s owners are demanding and you will regret asking.

2. Even Manchester United failed to persuade Tevez with a lavish offer of £130,000-week and a 5-year contract. If Arsenal were to equal that offer and lure the often tireless but scarcely prolific striker, he would be the highest earner in only his transition year at the club.

3. Arsene Wenger once declared he does not “collect” strikers. Even the loss of Adebayor as an option can be well compensated with the presence of Theo Walcott, Carlos Vela, Nicklas Bendtner, Robin van Persie, Eduardo and perhaps Andrey Arshavin. In that fairly formidable depth of forwards, there is choice of pace, lethal finishing or height and power.

He may be advised to add, but Wenger will certainly not be desperately shopping for another striker should Adebayor’s name be ticked off that list.

Even so, according to Kia Joorabchian:

“Right now we are evaluating the proposals from City, Chelsea and one other team,”

Which “other team” is more familiar with such purchasing tactics?

And it is only safe to know this is just an inference, not a start of another silly transfer rumor.

    The other team isn’t Arsenal. It’s Burnley….

  2. Marv tha' Gooner says:

Probably Spuds. They enjoy spunking cash…

  3. abc says:

It’s impossible for gunners and I guess it’s Inter or Barca.

  4. cunapony says:

course its not us you tool.

  5. Am'z says:

i realii do think its Arsenal,wy am satn this its becoz wenger alwyzzz quiet on his targets and bids,i mean he alwyzzz says that i wouldnt mention names as their prices will go up so its a defo Arsenal for me,but a defo MAN CITY player in few weeks, they will js ot bid every1 and put crazzzzy wages thats no1 can compete with, and thats why am worried if they went 4 MELO aswel coz they wre rumors few weeks ago.

  6. Clock End Gooner says:

I’d love to say so mate… But no chance! Not a chance in hell!

  7. Tittle Tattle says:

Why would we sign him? Not better than what we have and is merely a top footballer due to his work rate.

  8. fm says:

Not Arsenal. It’s either Inter, AC or Madrid. You all know we can’t compete with Chelsea, Citeh and the aforementioned clubs. So it’s stupid to even speculate.

  9. John Loizou says:

“2. Even Manchester United failed to persuade Tevez with a lavish offer of £130,000-week and a 5-year contract.”

Then what chance do we have?

  10. Anti IdiotPArty says:

We should be going in for players like this, but it is the Arsenal board and not Arsene himself who limits our choices.
We could have had so many other players but the simple matter of money prevented us buying them – enough is enough, we need a change in ownership. They have taken us as far as is possible.

Arsene has done the best he can by purchasing cheap and pulling rabbits out of the hat – how long can he keep doing that to keep us in the top 4?
Imagine, just imagine if he was given the funds to buy who he REALLY wants and what our squad will like then? After all, we were invincible once before, remember Gooners?
Cesc would not complain if that were the case!

  11. arsenal4ever says:

    I hope it is us!!!!!!!!

Here is Cescs true statement to the fucking quotes in the sun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate all these papers!!!!!! Everytime against us!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. South Yorkshire Gunner says:

    Anything is possible.

You are very correct in saying that wenger ceased being interested when the Mancs came in for Tevez. And that Arsenal are a quiet shopper.

    But £25 million plus a wage of £130K p/w?

    It’s possible – but doubtful.

    I wish I was wrong.

  13. Gunner #1 says:

I’d love to believe it’s us. Tevez is the type of player we need, as well as Melo. When other players notice 1 of their team-mates running his arse off for the team, they tend to join in, just imagine that? Everyone working at 100% for Arsenal, because we have players who bust a nut going forward, and don’t get back! If he did join, I’d welcome him like a home-coming son. He didn’t stay at united because they DIDN’T offer him what he wanted, and I’m sure he wouldn’t want that much to come to us, as we haven’t disrespected him by buying a clearly less talented player (Berbatov), and play him in front of Tevez!

Great to see Cesc has quashed those rumours (AGAIN!!) It pisses me off when the spanish media continually do it, time and time again.

  14. steve says:

It wasn’t 130k he wanted off united, it was a guarantee that he would be in front of Berbatov. And United failed to give him that guarantee.

  15. londoner1 says:

Am’z – no offence but are you capable of speaking English? Just curious….

  16. Goonerbeall says:

South Yorkshire Gunner, I agree with you. No matter how you twist and turn it, we cant afford that guy coz £25m would probably come from the sale of Ade but then £130k p/w is serious amount of money.
I bet its what both VP and Toure earn p/w and these are big players for the club. I share this man’ doubt but hope I’m wrong. Can you imagine what his industry and Ashavin’s alcrity would bring to our strikeforce?

  17. londoner1 says:

its not Arsenal. never in a million years would / could we pay that!

  18. ben says:

i think it is Ac Milan they have the money 2 spend after kaka.hes gonna go 2 city anyway they r gonna pay him more wages.up the Arsenal.also hopefully barca buy marcharona from the scouse then we can bid £15 mil for yaya.

  19. Thom says:

I really wish it is us.
Tevez is a top striker and a consumate professional…
Usually if we had any link with a United player I wouldn’t offer them a contract that I’d pissed on, but Tevez is a fantastic exception.
It’s not us, no way in hell is it us, but I wish to God it was…

  20. readie says:

    no chance at all.

  21. Wyrdwolf says:

With all the attacking talent we already have available, we would not be in for Tevez.
Our weakness is at the back, not up front. Lets remember that we were only outscored in the league by liverpool, and our attack is still maturing.

  22. Danish Gooner says:

Wenger wouldnt touch him with a garden rake.

  23. Davey says:

    IT’S REAL MA-FUCKING-DRID.
They will target everyone or anyone as long as they have played for a good team and have a good name.

  24. david smith says:

but tevez left man utd because according to him the offer came late.i dont think he will go to city because he wants to play champ league football and chelsea are his rivals and he knows that he might not be a regular so he will sign for the other team.

  25. elz gunner says:

Not that he is a necessity but we will not buy Tevez for reasons not just circulating on his price tag. He is owned by a third party and i seem to remeber Wenger vowing not to have business with players of such kinds

  26. bewster says:

id love tevez to sign for us he is a class player and works hard for his team he would remind u of greedy-bayor before he got his new contract the way he used to play running after every ball and not giving up

  27. Ace says:

Liverpool, anyone? They spent £20m on Robbie Keane, so it would make sense for them to spend £30m on an actually decent striker. Plus he lives near there and Liverpool are actually in contention for trophies, as opposed to City

  28. Fabregas' Dad says:

I hear Sheffield United are gonna make a bid for him.

  29. sooner says:

    of course not, mate..

  30. willo says:

We don’t need Tevez. We have the players, we just got to hope that injuries don’t plague our season again. If we gell this season not many will stay with us. We have Eduardo and Rosisky to come back too.
United won’t be as potent without Ronaldo but of course still the favourites. Chelsea are a definate threat, Liverpool just can’t seem to get it right under Benitez. Man City deserve respect but I don’t think Hughes is the man for the job. Everton should improve too.
But we can beat all these. Let’s hope we can beat the Burnleys too!
    Can’t wait.

  31. phillip says:

Randy, difficult to determine who’s more insane, you or wenger. Just joking mate, nice try but you forgot the most important point, Tevez’s wallet. We at Arsenal are skint, and Tevez is after the dosh big time. Tevez told SAF make me the highest paid player or I go.

  32. arsenic says:

    dreaming again are we !!!

transfers transfers transfers … anything can happen … whatever it may be … i dont see us spending so much on anyone …

but as fabregas’s dad pointed out … i think sheffield utd have a good chance of signing him up …

  33. stew says:

it’s portsmouth, and mancini will be their next manager too!

  34. Chipo says:

Funnily enough, I know Arshavin’s agent through a friend, and this guy seemed pretty convinced that Tevez would be a gooner next season.

I can’t see it happening personally, but if we sell Ade then who knows? We already have 2 tall strikers in RvP and Bendtner, maybe a little argie terrier is the missing piece!

I would love it, but not gonna get my hopes up.

  35. 9ja Gunner says:

    Not a chance in hell.

  36. dsf says:

tevez 25.5m utter waste of money

  37. thegrovegoooner says:

no thanks. if we gonna spend that kind of money. i’d prefer it to be a DM. we have the attacking power to rival any team in the world already.

  38. DB says:

Well who knows, I know Arsene is interested in him as who wouldnt? He wont want 130k a week from us or another team. He had issues with Fergie and basically priced himself out of staying at United on purpose. Do I think we will get him… NO! but there are interesting factors surrounding the Tevez team.

    1) Arsene has always wanted him.
    2) Tevez wanted to come to us before man United but the ownership problems with him managing company made the board decide its not good business to get a player but not own him…. and correct thinking too of the board.
    3) his agent/manager is a mad arsenal fan and has a private box at the emirates and this is a well known fact.

But, as i said before I dont think we will get him. I think we will be getting Melo or some hard ass Midfield enforcer. We dont have a problem with the strikers putting the ball in the net (Adebollocks aside) it was the midfield either not being creative enough with the final ball or our creative midfielders chasing shadows because of lack of defensive cover meaning they couldnt do their creative job.

Finally, dont be suprised if Adebollocks is offloaded to barce with Toure coming in exchange.

    Good day to all

  39. shedzy says:

Following the logic that ‘it must be Arsenal, because we are always quiet about players we are about to sign’, I think we are probably also about to sign Ribery, Henry, Barak Obama, Jon Terry, Terry Christian, Kristian Karembeu and a camel named Hector.

  40. RIP MJ says:

He recently bought a house in Manchester and his daughter is about to go to school up there. No focking way man.

  41. fhdn says:

    chelsea?

  42. Tony Adams says:

The third club is made up.
