http://www.soccernews.nl/uploads/vermaelen,%20thomas%20%5Bcloseup%5D.jpgThomas Vermaelen is now nearing his move to Arsenal after revealing a medical at London Colney is scheduled for him tomorrow.

Reports that the Belgian is on the brink of an Arsenal move began to spring about two weeks ago but Arsene Wenger himself was still on tour in Asia, and so the move was put on ice.

The 23-year-old though, has been Arsenal-bound since with his agent hinting a deal may be struck soon.

Now Vermaelen himself claims his proposed £10 million switch to the Gunners should be completed tomorrow when he undergoes a medical in London.

“The signature is not there yet, but everything is in order,” Vermaelen told Gazet van Antwerpen.“On Friday I will fly to London to undergo a medical. Then I hope to sign.”

He continued: “I feel so proud. Arsenal is a fantastic club, and as a child I watched them play.

“On Friday, if I go to Emirates Stadium I will be seriously impressed.

“This will be a big change in my life, next year I will suddenly be facing the best strikers in the world.

“This does not scare me, I will give everything my body has.

“This is one of the best days of my life.”

What does indeed encourage the likelihood of Vermaelen being unveiled as an Arsenal player tomorrow is the fact that Arsenal Football Club often announce new signings and contract extensions on Fridays.

Last summer, the acquisitions of Aaron Ramsey and Samir Nasri were all made public on the last working day of the week.

Denilson and Adebayor’s contract extensions a year ago were also revealed by the club on Friday, while that of Walcott and Fabiasnki, recently, were also declared on a Friday.

The club does have a strong policy of blasting such news on days like tomorrow, and if it does not come within 24 hours, expect it within an exact week’s time.

“Gazet van Antwerpen” is one of the most important newspapers in Flanders (Dutch speaking part of Belgium) and considered as trustworthy.
Also Vermaelen was born in Stabroek a small town just next to Antwerp so I guess the paper nows where they can get in touch with him.
So I think the Arsenal Benelux fanclub will have both a player in the Arsenal with Vermaelen from Belgium and Van Persie from The Netherlands. Very nice.
    Hope he succeeds with us.

Yes, he will be a good player & i hope we could a central midfielder, forward & a center back den our squad will be a great squad> We really need experience & depth.

anyone know the 4-1-1 on gallas?

veta, you’re clearly joking, right? a forward? like there arent enough already? a central mid to an already choked midfield.
    thats funny, well done!!

Alright, that’s taken care of. now we need a bone crashing enforcer in the middle….

That should be Belgian (the noun and adjective used to describe people from Belgium) and not Belgium.

This is good news, and it’s good to see that he’s excited at the prospect of playing for us. Still a bit annoyed that Ajax fans seem to think they’re ripping us off though. Hopefully this signals the departure of Silvestre and not Toure or Gallas.

MELO!! MELO!!! MELO!!!! After today’s game he would be perfect for us.

Let’s hope that Arsene was watching that game.

Does anyone know anything about that “crazy rumour” sending RVP to ManU?

  9. DutchGunner says:

It’s was on every dutch sportsite two days ago. Man u is interested in RVP to replace ronaldo. He is on a list with possible replacements according to the sites but I think it will stay with being on the list.

can’t imagine that wenger will sell him, it would be suicide because than players like fabregas, adebayor and arshavin don’t believe in the ambitions of wenger and they will all leave.

you should not sell star players to rivals, just like you should not buy bench warming defenders from rivals.. we all know who I mean..

  10. Rock says:

i’m pretty sure AW would never sell RVP to ManU…..he might even consider a good offer from Inter Milan but he wont even think off ManU….

  11. futballyank says:

agree rock & dutch no chance.
    especially after silvestre “deal”.
