Stopper was 'close' to Arsenal move last week

Vincent Enyeama could have easily been an Arsenal player by now.
The Nigerian goalkeeper was closing in on a move to north London last week until certain contractual agreements failed to fall through – according to his agent.
Tony Martich, the Hapoel Tel Aviv player’s agent, revealed his client was victim of a dramatic collapse in a poised transfer with the 26-year-old’s current club blamable for their high demand of a fee.
That indeed is logical reason to Arsene Wenger’s decision to extend the contract of second choice stopper Lukasz Fabianski on Friday.
Enyeama though, is an undoubted reliability between the posts and would have been an effective acquisition. The once African Champions League winner with Enyimba FC – who takes penalties for his club side – is nicknamed ‘The Cat’ and was picked out earlier in the season as a player to watch by IMScouting.com.
Reports by African tabloids had deemed this transfer very imminent, but Nigeria’s number and his agent are now pondering what might have been.
“Vincent was very close to sealing a move to Arsenal, he had already agreed personal terms but Hapoel demanded €2 million – and Arsenal pulled out,” Martich told the Israeli press.”
Pure fiction. Wenger doesn’t like short goalkeepers and this guy is 5′11″. Just another agent trying to drum up interest for his client by saying Arsenal were interested knowing that Arsenal won’t comment. Fabianski wasn’t out of contract this summer so his EXTENSION had no bearing on this keepers alleged acquisition. Laughable.

And since Fabianski was not out of contract, then there was also no need for extension if it did not bear on the fact that Wenger went back to decide to keep faith in him after this deal failed.

It’s not just wiki, everywhere has him at 5′11″ and Fabianski is 6′3″. And there was a need to extend Fabianski’s contract. While he’s not out of contract this summer (meaning Arsenal had no reason to go searching for a backup), he would have been out of contract next summer. Agents have been playing this game for many years, say Arsenal is interested so that they can drum up interest in maybe the Turkish or Greek league (anything to get them out of the dead end league they are currently in).
Oh lord, another transfer story spirals into endless debate about height. Remind me, how tall is Vermaelen again…

it might interest you to note that vincent has not conceeded a goal in the last 6 competitive games for Nigeria include a friendly match with France. and was voted the player of the season and goalkeeper of the season in Israel. Can we say the same of fabianski who can not even tie down a permanent shirt in the finish national team?
