I think it was a matter of him jumping into the offensive game too much, he got caught on quick transitions, but so do a lot of other CDM's that venture into the offensive side of the field. In those situations you need solid CB's with some speed and good tackling skills. The difference between Song and Flamini is about 2 years of professional experience. Song will be a great CDM soon, he's already a good one. As to the signing of Fabiansky, I'm all for it. His inexperience showed in the latter stages of the season, but he was awesome against Villareal in the CL. I think he did great for a young backup who was never supposed to be in that many games this season. He showed that he is skilled and worthy of an Arsenal shirt, imho. I know a lot of supporters want to get rid of him, but he is still young and shows a great deal of confindence in the net.
