The 24-year-old who enjoyed a relatively missed 2008/09 season stepped up as Manuel Almunia’s under-study following Jens Lehmann’s departure last summer.

Fabianski – who signed for Arsenal from Legia Warsaw in 2007 – proved a firm guard in Arsenal’s goal during the Carling Cup campaign in 2007/08 until conceding five at Tottenham as the Gunners bowed out of the tournament.

And when he deputized Almunia for the latter part of last season, Arsenal’s young stopper was fairly convincing apart from the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea and four-goal let-downs in the Premier League away to Liverpool and home to Chelsea.

But with the apparent potential Fabianski possesses, Arsène Wenger is delighted to have his future secured.

“I rate Lukasz highly and I am very pleased that he has committed his future to the Club. I believe he is a top competitor, he’s intelligent and reads the game very well and has all the ingredients to be successful in his position.”

Lukasz Fabianski was equally glad about his contract extension and is bullish about his future at the club.

“I’m very happy to sign my new contract with Arsenal, it’s a big motivation for me to keep working hard and shows that the Club believes in me. I’ll be doing everything I can to repay that belief by helping Arsenal to win trophies in the coming years.”

Below are highlights of one of his impressive games in goal last season.

I for one am glad that Arsenal has extended his contract. I know a lot of supporters want to get rid of him, but he is still young and shows a great deal of confindence in the net. He obviously has a few things to work on, but he is a solid #2 right now

    agree gunnertastic.
damn did villareal look good that night. and senna … whoa! mosdef the gunners need tough cdm to step up and make the spot his next season. i like song, just not his habit of disappearing.

i agree, he is a good shot stopper, his tall, but maybe just some airiel work… but the makings of a good keeper

futballyank- Song can’t be everywhere at once, but he can steal a ball, usually makes good passes, and has good closing speed. I think it was a matter of him jumping into the offensive game too much, he got caught on quick transitions, but so do a lot of other CDM’s that venture into the offensive side of the field. In those situations you need solid CB’s with some speed and good tackling skills. The difference between Song and Flamini is about 2 years of professional experience. Song will be a great CDM soon, he’s already a good one.

As to the signing of Fabiansky, I’m all for it. His inexperience showed in the latter stages of the season, but he was awesome against Villareal in the CL. I think he did great for a young backup who was never supposed to be in that many games this season. He showed that he is skilled and worthy of an Arsenal shirt, imho.

    Go Gunners!
