Arshavin’s alarming quotes are false

arshavin barcelonaRubbish has been recycled.

In fact, that environmental process is not just practiced by manufacturing industries but also the media who chose to recycle Andrey Arshavin’s words from last summer.

To say it is no secret that Andrey Arshavin is a fan of FC Barcelona is a huge understatement.

We accepted and respected that factor way before the Russian’s flight was welcomed in England. And to be fair, his move to Arsenal was as unrehearsed as a toss of coin or a dealing of hands in poker.

Indeed, Arshavin could have ended up anywhere. He could have been a Chelsea, Manchester United or even a Tottenham Hotspur player at the moment.

This superb talent was up for grabs for any club and graciously, it was Arsenal who snapped him up.

Football players in this era are not your typical childhood or city-born dreamers who end up at desired destinations. That is simply because the game has become a melting pot for people of all walks of life – like it should be.

These days you find full-blooded latin men vying to settle in England and Brazilian names eclipsing others on the team sheets of Italian sides.  It is admirably how universal football has become and safe it is to infer that few men in our own Arsenal squad used to model replica kits of Ian Wright and co before moving to north London.

That is why an Arsenal player’s admiration for a fellow football giant should be unpopular but cannot be unacceptable among Gooners.

And despite our class act to understand Arshavin’s passion, we may still have to tolerate the instigative media. Or specifically, ‘the Sun’.

After a failed attempt to unsettle Arsenal’s skipper last week, the British news source risked their faint creditability by trying to ruffle the future of the squad’s most influential addition.

They chose to recycle and modify quotes made by the player almost exactly a year ago through which he admitted his Barcelona appeal.

Then, Arshavin reportedly said:

“I have supported Barcelona all my life. Barcelona are my dream.

“I never thought I would have a genuine chance to play for the club. Let’s see how the situation unfolds. For now I can’t say anything for sure.

“At the moment I’m a player of team Russia and I’m only thinking about doing well in the semi-finals.”

(Sample report of that story here)

And to stun the ’silly season’ out of us and provoke headaches of losing Arshavin this morning, ‘the Sun’ reported (and distributed to the entire media) this:

“If I have the chance to play for Barcelona, I’d be really happy.” Arshavin said.

Indeed, unlike an ordinary article from ‘the Sun’ which contains paragraphs of blabbering to support the fabricated story, this Arshavin report had just a sensational sentence and that quote.  (Here it is)

Nothing but a forged hint that Andrey Arshavin is heading to the Camp Nou when he only previously was.

And it may need arsenal.com’s rebuffing soon – as you would expect.

  4. Connor says:

it’s about time arsenal took legal action coz these rumours are constantly false

  5. goeff says:

KingKolo, think you wrong, the press as already sold every Liverpool player. yet if it make you good sure Toure, Cesc, ade, Arshavin will remain in the press untill some are sold.

  6. Browny says:

Forget legal action. If all the fan-sites managed to persuade most gooners to stop buying the sun and all affiliated newspapers around the globe that is what would really hurt them. Time for aa bit of corporate rebellion.

  7. Family Enclosure Man says:

Browny, that is a seriously brilliant idea. The Sun and most other tabloids aren’t worth suing as toilet paper – an informal boycott is the absolute best way of dealing with them. If people in effect say to them ‘know what? we’re just not gonna buy your crap any more!’ they would eventually be forced to re-think their ‘editorial’ lines.

let’s be honest here “the old cuurant bun”is A MANURE LOVING RAG”along with the guardian & daily mail & daily star-they are choking on their prawn sandwiches that the winker, sorry wanker has left them for the official & genuine biggest club in the world-we know who they are-so they spend their sad little days scribbling shit stiring stories about the gooner empire-after all what’s left for them?my advice ?use their papers for what they are fit for-up THE ARSENAL!!

  9. goonerMichael says:

The Sun are a bunch of cunts

  10. WAMBAM says:

TOTALLY AGREE BROWNY,couldnt have said it better KING-GOONER. LOL!

  11. Arian says:

IT IS PATHETIC,ANYONE COULD TELL THAT THIS MORNING; AFTER ALL, ONE DOES NOT ONLY SAY ONE SENTENCE WHEN SPEAKING TO THE MEDIA!
BUT WHAT IS MORE OUTRAGEOUS IS THAT ARSENE WENGER NEVER SHOWS ANY TEETH TO SCARE THESE BANDIT JOURNALISTS OFF. HE ONLY EXPLAINS, WHICH ENBOLDENS THEM TO DO MORE THE NEXT DAY!

  12. Alex (scotch) Ferguson says:

NO, Thats absolute bollocks that is! Total nonsense!

  13. anto says:

Agreed with king kolo, Its always the ARSENAL player who wants a move away, When C ronaldo wanted to leave man u LAST year, the whole world went upside down and he REALLY wanted to go. IDk why when u ask some other supporter of another team, “Is arsenal a good club?” and they say no and u ask them again “Then why is your club after 3 of our players?” they wont have an answer lol

  14. GUNNA_H says:

We should make a rumour and spread it across the whole internet about The Sun, would be fun. (catchy)

Maybe it could be along the lines of… The Sun are reportedly being taken over by The Times as the owners have agreed a deal that would satisfy both and merge the newspapers???? And maybe add that some of The Sun and Times workers would be made redundant to fit in witch the rescale???

Just and idea though.. would be hard for only one blog to do so much.

  15. Grantski says:

Ive just emailed the sun… maybe we should all join together and give them a piece of our minds and hopefully they may change their bullcrap stories about us, if it dont work atleast i tried and i will no longer “fund” their bullshit articles..

“After another completely made up story about Arsenal FC I refuse to buy another paper from you.

I have bought your paper on a daily bases for years but today was my last after reading Andrey Arshavin wants to join Barcalona, if you had done your research you would have realised these quotes were from before Arsenal FC had even purchased the player and your claiming he wants to leave us for Barcalona.

Where do you get your kicks from trying to disrupt and continually link players away from our club?

    A good customer lost.”

If you want to email them it’s… custserv@the-sun.co.uk

  16. nz gunner says:

TO Grantski THATS A REALLY SMART IDEA WE SHOULD ACTUALLY DO THAT

  17. DAF says:

Hey Gunna_H, great idea about spreading a rumour that The Sun is being “aken over by The Times as the owners have agreed a deal”.

Only one flaw in that plan.

The Sun and The Times are already owned by the same owners (News International).

Shame. Good idea in principle though.

Just believe nothing you read unless it’s on http://www.arsenal.com
