Marseille captain Lorik Cana is dubbed the new Flamini with former teammate Samir Nasri even attesting to the Albanian midfielder’s quality in a recent interview on Arsenal TV online.  Speculations from France today claim Arsene Wenger is in pursuit, but why?

Well, here’s why.

95 Responses to “Video: Wenger's "new Flamini"”

  1. Lorik Cana says:

‘well given the choice i would go to Arsenal Football Club as they could match my ambition of playing in Champions League, but Everton or any other English team would do too’

    Says it all, hah.

  2. dvsdvg says:

love for him to play for us against UTD and in particular Evra

  3. Randy Osae says:

Yeah, from what I have heard, the dude is a beast. Forget “new Flamini”.

  4. gunnerman says:

is the price right? that is the true question….

  5. ThE kInG oF tHe WoRlD says:

apparantly to all sources in france he’d cost £8million which isn’t too bad i think. wud love to see him against liverpool n united coz he’d absolutely twat ronaldo n torres LOL

  6. joshwaa says:

oh come on. This guy is fairly shite other than his reckless tackling. This is not the answer, no way. I watch him alot in the french league and he lacks technical ability and pace, something which Flamini had. We need assurance. Alonso or Senna would do for me, although the latter is 32

  7. Randy Osae says:

Are you sure about that joshwaa?…by the way, apparently Marseille want £10 million for him. That’s too much.

  8. yo says:

haha great video. this guy has enough testostorone to fuel a tank. wenger wont go for it cause hes not a walk over with no charisma like the rest of current team.

  9. afriX says:

bring on Cana he’s the type of tough as nails player we want!last season Marseille wanted 20 mil for him!

  10. gooner17 says:

i dont think wenger would appreciate nasrii naming players he thinks shud be signed for arsenal, coz like wenger said wen u name a player the price doubles, which is true

  11. Aa23 (norwegian gooner) says:

did some research on the guy and as he is captain of mersailles + has had a great season (OM are in 2.place i belive) he would cost about 15m i think…some guy commented on another blog saying wenger came damn colese to signing him last summer, so i hope he has another go at it cuz this guy is a fucking maniac (just the crazy bastard we need to crock ronaldo XD)

  12. Tom says:

‘cos we’re so good at defending set pieces we can afford to give away loadsa free kicks all the time

  13. usama says:

    hahaha tom

  14. Rock says:

we need a tough tackling midfielder but not a psycho, refs in the premier league will stamp him out nicely and he will cost us. make no mistake.

  15. harris says:

Rock: I’m sure Wenger will point that out to him.

  16. nikkib says:

well, you don’t fuck with this guy.. Maybe to much, but i like his style..

  17. Risje^ says:

omg, what a beast. Actually it is a kinda bit what Arsenal need. But dunno if it is Arsenals style, altough we used to have Vieira…

  18. fabrepass says:

well, he looks lika true rough beast.

  19. Griff says:

I can see, Webb reaching for his red card as I’m watching it.

  20. The kING says:

    R u guys crazy??!

This is exactly the type of player we need, he is vicious, and teams will fear us again. we just need someone to get the ball!!!!

    how old is he?

  21. Randy Osae says:

The kING – He is 25-years-old

  22. afc1971 says:

Just what we need but on this evidence he will see lots or red cards. But just what we need foot in first

  23. Mr Westlake says:

I really never want too see that guy in an Arsenal shirt, he looks a second rate player, who likes to kick people! No way, he would be too much aggro!

  24. jo says:

trouble is, with the shit referees in England, he’d be getting sent off every other week.

  25. Gary says:

We have enough skilled midfielders at the moment and need someone with a bit of strength and presence. I remember when we had petit and vieira, we won games in the tunnel, Keane was the same for manure, this guy looks awsome and would be perfect next to the smaller guys

  26. Dgob says:

Sadly, the red cards would follow his every move and I’m sure our little-Englander contingent of the press would make him a marked man for every ref’, even before his plane landing. Do like the steel though

  27. Mr B says:

    No way!

The blokes off key. Wenger would have to get a hotline installed to the F.A disciplinarian board.

  28. mark says:

This bloke can not even tackle, he would spend alot of time suspended, on the plus side at least Mr Rosicky would have someone to chat with!!!!!!

  29. Evan says:

Most of you people have never even seen him play. He is better technically than Flamini and he actually does not get many cards in France.

  30. fab says:

    Flamini cannot do this!

    http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/cana+Beauvais/video/x3z23h_beauvais-om_sport

I’ve seen him play, technically he’s very good, but it’s his unbelievable engine and tenacity we really need in midfield.

  31. Kilo G says:

Lol He’s a beast, if he’s making those kin of tackles in the Liga imagine the challenges he’ll be making in the premiership where the pace of the game is faster and the tackles are harder.

  32. GUNNA-H says:

Yeah just ‘coz you’ve seen this video you’re getting the idea that he gats red cards many times. You’re wrong. He is actually quite good technically and standing at 186cm tall he is quite imposing. The tackles you see above are only some of his millions, and trust me we do need a player like him. Definetly.

  33. fcdematthew says:

he is like French robbie savage.

  34. albanian Gunner. says:

Canaj is the best, he is gone a bee Patrick Viera junior, he is a real rock, very strong caracter, and big leader. He can play as a central defender too.
    Common LORIK CANAJ.Gunners forever

  35. arsenekidz says:

fcdematthew,Speaking of robbie savage, he is a ’savage’. he is no footballer. he just goes around roughing out opponents and earning unnecessary yellow and red cards. no matter how good lorik canaj is but if he has an attitude of robbie, we are better without him.

  36. gunningforachange says:

What a liability! Last thing you need against Man Utd or whoever is to have a man sent off. He would have to calm down abit to get ahead in the EPL. But then weak Arsenal need some Bolton style steel, we would be unbeatable!!

  37. Damn_Gallas says:

this guy is insane… look at his crunching tackles and hard play.. but if he was to play for arsenal… then he would be given yellows and reds.. anyway when flamini was around, he was given yellow card almost every game.

So lets go get him wenger.. we need players like this.. he would definitely have no problem adapting to the EPL.. Watch out Essien, Lampard, Gerrard, Mascherano, Torres, Drogba, Ronaldo…

  38. aussie gooner says:

ooollllriight..finally the missing piece in the puzzle. Dont need another technically gifted midfielder we need an enforcer and it looks like there are none better. will make every team think twice about going for the ball when he’s around.
now lets just get hangelaand and dzeko and we’ll win champs league

  39. D says:

he looks awful. Even I could reckless tackle like that. That’s all he does. We need skill

  40. bal says:

i dnt care hw many times he gets sent off just want him to mess arnd in the away games to bolton and stoke

  41. bal says:

i want dzeko adn hangelaand or jagielka.
what abt own or damien duff?

  42. bal says:

i want dzeko and hangelaand or jagielka.
what abt owen or damien duff?

  43. arsenekidz says:

Spot on, Rock. We do need tough tackling CDM not any psycho.

  44. arsenekidz says:

Players like Patrick Viera , Micheal Essien and Roy Keane are strong and tough players but still play with brains. We do need players like them.

  45. True gunner says:

Now this guy is a complete package!!! This guy is solid, imposing and even shoots at goal though with the power behind his shots, he needs to improve on the accuracy of his shots at goal. Refs will get used to him the way they gave up on Viera. He is also a leader on the pitch coz am sure with his kind of game, anyone taking subsituting him has to perform at a high level. His character seems to show he doesn’t like losing which is the attitude we need injected in our players!!! GO GET HIM WENGER!!!!!!!

  46. Adarsh says:

first, flamini was a money hungry bitch…i don’t think any other player should be dubbed tht without finding out the truth if u knw wht i mean
also…i doubt wenger would buy a french player tht would NOT listen to him on reckless tackles and anger management… so i guess cana is up for the job.

and lstly, he is exactly the kind of player we need…physically and mentally strong enough to protect fabregas and the backline.]

my prediction is tht wenger will buy him, hangeland and recall senderos.. if gallas leaves he might buy another to replace him.
further ade might not leave, and if he does i am wishing pato but i suspect a african french striker tht no one has heard of

  47. 9ja Gooner says:

Hell, he’s got balls! But dont think Wenger is gonna do for a brute like him. We do need an enforcer though & i think Inler would do just fine.

  48. hipdog says:

dont know about this guy. looks like he is more suited to blackburn or everton. there is some horrendously timed tackling in the video and if he plays like that in the pl he’ll get sent off every other week. being able to tackle badly is not what we need, and he’s not worth the asking price. im hoping that if it is true that the video doesnt do him justice. but with wenger’s connections in the french league he will know the player very well, if he has faith in him then so do i. here’s a thought for u: torsten frings- good presence in midfield with a good range of passing. in wenger we trust.

  49. mr_rossi says:

he is an animal, and for those who say he is not very technical i say yr wrong but i wouldnt care as we have enuff players who can do the pretty stuff we need someone whho is gona go thru players and make them think twice abou going in for another tackle with this guy

  50. Thomas says:

If he is bought it will be like when Essien 1st arrived Chealsea, we saw the heart renging tackle he made in his 1st few games against opponents as they think 2ice b4 going in on him now. I am really tired of hearing about potential with no heart. I am sure AW will let him loose just to show Eva/Ronaldo that things had changed and then sort out his attitude. I am tired of watching beautiful footie without laurels. I am sure even Fabrigas is tired of not winning stuffs. Oh common its Arsenal we are talking about. Youth and beautfy is not making my beloved team play the CL finals now. MU plays beauty but mixes it up when the situation demands. I am tired of the Fulhams coming to Emmi and taking max points.

  51. JaY says:

I have been a huge fan of Lorik Cana for a few years now, He is a born leader and is very vocal and eager to get his team sorted. While he is a touch tackler his tackles are usually sublime and his commitment to the game can be challenged by none I often tell people he is the missing link we have been missing since the leadership of vieira. Our midfield is seen to have abilty but be very weak and easily overpowered. Fabregas and Cana would be a great partnership through Cana winning the ball and Fabregas playing the killer ball to our strikeforce. The only question in my book is how the fabregas partnership would gel, it would take about half a season for cana and fabregas to get a good partnership going but I doubt wenger would let it happen as it may “cripple” Denilson/Song/Diaby’s progress.
Cana is a proven player that wouldnt cost too much and give us our strength back.

  52. Thomas says:

Hipdog, how did you feel when we played MU at the Emmirates? How did you feel when Evra said it was men against babies? In modern football esp our kind of football in EPL, it requires grit aswell to win matches that requires that. unlike Adebayo and Bentner that are always not in the mood. What will you prefer, winning the grit of Chelsea or loosing to MU the way we did in the CL at the Emmirates)? I love the guy. In one of his clips he even kicked the post. We all know he will be there to be a bodyguard to Cesc and Theo, while they do the destruction with technicallity and speed. As of Little Ashavin he can take care of himself cos he’s got the heart to put in for the tackles(Unlike Eboue, Ade, Rosicky, Diaby, Sylvester(waste pipe) and co.

  53. GoonerY says:

I think hes exactli wat arsenal need we need sum1 to get stuck into tackles plus hel make the team man up in training. look at nasri he aint the biggest but he can take the physical side nd in an interview aparentli he sed its coz of cana in training so this guy could b vital both on and off the pitch hes perfect

  54. ford says:

He seems to be the missing peace arsenal needs…but im sure he will pick up lots of cards along the way :D

  55. Joe says:

    The boy certainly can foul.

  56. gooner says:

    hes mad

  57. Akbar says:

PLEASE WENGER BUY HIM, HE IS WHAT WE NEED!

    SAKHO + ZAPATE IN CENTREBACK

    CANA IN MIDFIELD

    WE WILL RAPE EVERYONE!!

  58. Kyle says:

He looks stunning. Exactly what we need – quick turn overs and breaks, rather than Song/Diaby/Denilson who slow down possession while they try desperately to control the ball and not get tackled..

  59. le prof says:

got a feeling there is truth in this-will balance midfield.

  60. Korab says:

Professor needs a player like him..

  61. Andres says:

    WHAT AN ABSOLUTE BEAST!!!!!!
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OFGOD, BUY HIM WENGER

  62. Arse&Nose says:

    are you lot blind?

When diaby or eboue make reckless tackles we talk about how shit they are, and now I’ve just watched a you tube video of a guy who can not tackle to save his life! He has a succesful tackle ratio of 1 in 6!

Yes he can kick hard but you need more than that to get into the Arsenal team!

  63. RicDizzle says:

its funny i’ve known this guy since football manager 05 and he was a hell of a player, with very good statistics. LOL
FM THEY ALWAYS GET IT RIGHT!

  64. seb says:

Fuck it why don’t we save a few quid and just get Joey Barton instead.

Same level of ability, same attitude, same end result: red card.

  65. Twats says:

Ha, that’s the shittest YOUTUBE review of someone I’ve ever seen. Is he good on FM too?

    Yeah, go for Joey Barton.

OMG buy a DM Whinger height backbone steel experience cliche bandwagon

  66. Twats says:

“He looks stunning. Exactly what we need – quick turn overs and breaks, rather than Song/Diaby/Denilson who slow down possession while they try desperately to control the ball and not get tackled..”

    Hahahahaha

  67. Twats says:

“PLEASE WENGER BUY HIM, HE IS WHAT WE NEED!

    SAKHO + ZAPATE IN CENTREBACK

    CANA IN MIDFIELD

    WE WILL RAPE EVERYONE!!”

    FUCK OFF BACK TO FM

  68. Twats says:

“If he is bought it will be like when Essien 1st arrived Chealsea, we saw the heart renging tackle he made in his 1st few games against opponents as they think 2ice b4 going in on him now. You truly are inexorably stupid. Perhaps one of these other dribblers will lend you their brain cell for five minutes?

  69. Twats says:

“i want dzeko adn hangelaand or jagielka.
what abt own or damien duff?”

Oh dear god it actually gets better

  70. redbearer says:

Looks like a battler… not afraid to get stuck in!

  71. dom says:

lol, this guy can’t actually tackle! would be pretty good to have him around protecting and liberating cesc. until he gets sent off…

  72. Akbar says:

    Twats:

Why dont you fuk off? Since you have contributed nothing but shit to this world? You priceless fuk

  73. USA Gunner says:

wow that is the first I’ve heard of that cat.

I’m torn, we need a tough and physical presence in the mid and that would be it.

If you do bring him on, he will have to learn quick to control himself, and it would be the role of our captain to keep him in check. Stupid fouls can cost you games.

But with that saying, we do need a rough and tough mid to hold back and put the fear of coming down the middle in the eyes of our team.

I like him, pick him up but tell him that he needs to keep his cool. Would rather have him on our side rather then using those tackles against us.

  74. Damn_Gallas says:

this boy is strength.. he only needs to learn how to convert the strength into proper use… no by giving out rough treatments to the opposing team. We need strength in the middle of the park. We need someone that can intercept the balls.

If lorik cana can do that all, and given his agression and stamina, he would be a good catch for our team. Him with cesc will allow cesc to run the show without worrying for the defence. If put cana and song together, that would be better.

I would say go for it, and under the guidance of wenger, he should be able to make it. Together with him being only 26 years old, there is a good 6 years ahead of him. Song and Denilson can learn from him on how to be more agressive as well. Go for Cana, i would say.

Meanwhile in defence, it seems wenger has identified quite a number of players. However, hangeland does not want to leave fulham and wheater wants to stay with relegated boro. So I would like to see wenger make a bid for sebestian bassong of newcastle. He is a good defender, and wenger should allow him to come. If not, wenger should just sell adebayor to city and ask for richards, in a player plus cash swap.

Lastly, wenger should really just buy some players and hopefully he gets them asap, so that those new lads can join in the pre-season and get a feel of how the game is played at arsenal

  75. Nicklas BENT-DNAR says:

In my personal opinion this guy is probably the best replacement we can hope for,he looks a great player and would complement Fabregas well, thats when hes not off his feet. Him along with Naldo(Werder Bremen)who is a man mountain with a deadly free-kick and great defencive qualities, forget hahalend. Matuidi also looks a great promise, and reports in Franc suggest he’s signed a precontract a godd CDM. Finally a worldclass striker like Tevez, a fans-favourite at Man U, so they do have some Brain-cells. And by the way does any one know anything about the Pedro Botelho situation, could be a great player, could be sold so which one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  76. Hypern0vae says:

Hmmnn… crazy tackling along with the pace of the EPL… isn’t that how Eduardo ended up with a broken leg? If nothing else at least with this guy on board we’d have a fair chance of finishing bottom of the Fair Play table…

  77. arsenekidz says:

I fear for another Eduardo type of injury to fellow professional footballer who earns their living playing football.

  78. arsenekidz says:

Eduardo did mentioned that he does not wish anyone to suffer and go through the same pain and agony as him.

  79. Lucy says:

Thanks for posting, I truly liked your newest post. I think you should post more frequently, you evidently have talent for blogging!

  80. AlboGunneR says:

The guy is a beast just the type of player Arsenal needs! In the last game against Portugal with Albania Ronaldo just farted in front of him!

Bring him in Arsenal. Maybe the ball can pass him but not the player :) !

  81. julien says:

Lorik’s video shows seasons 2005-2006 and 2006-2007. He was then at his best. He was the only defensive midfielder in a 4-5-1 with Nasri, Ribéry and Cissé and had much liberty on the field to tackle everything coming to him.

He’s less good since two years. Some say it’s because he cut his hair off so he should be called Samson. In fact, he was asked by his coach to “calm down himself” and he played in a much more organized system. So today we see that he lacks a bit of technique, which should stop him from going to a team like Arsenal.

Cana can be very tough but he never hurt anybody and he’s always fair play.

The odds are he’s going to Hamburg and would be replaced by Stephane Mbia from Rennes.

  82. McBeth says:

Anybody who watches Ligue 1 would disagree with julien. This guy is very agressive but gets the job done.Something Arsenal donot have at the moment.

  83. John1321 says:

    Very nice site!

  84. hndra says:

  87. Maxwell999 says:

Lorik has had 1 red card in 3 seasons. Yes hes a tough tackler but hes not dirty he would cost around 6.5mil euros due to a buy out clause in his contract. Wenger tried to sign him as a youngster but couldnt get a work permit. I like the guy and think he would mke a great signing

  88. Henry'sLeftShoe says:

His red card, yellow for 3 preceding seasons are 0,0,1 while yellow card tally is 7,12,8 and How the hell can make him a liability? I agree with Maxwell and he would simply be great for Arsenal and we definitely need some steel in the middle, he’s the gattusso we need!

  89. rina says:

he is the “king” of foodball

he has DYNAMISM ,POWER,INTELLIGENCE and every thing that needed 1 player ….

only way to stap him is to breake a led or anything else…
