Theo is staying
Despite another barren season, there are good signs of a more stable summer for Arsenal.
Theo Walcott has committed his long-term future to Arsenal after agreeing a new contract. It is thought the 20-year-old has agreed a four-year deal worth £60,000-a-week.
The England international winger has made 103 appearances and scored 14 goals since joining Arsenal from Southampton in January 2006.
“I’m absolutely delighted to have signed a new long-term contract,” Walcott said. “I’m so happy here and want to say thanks to everyone who has helped me get to this point in my career, together with the belief of my team-mates, the manager and everyone on the staff.
“It’s fantastic to work with the best manager in the world and play at the Emirates Stadium. I want to continue playing my football at this club and look forward to many successful seasons ahead.”
Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, said he expected Walcott to fulfil his potential in the years to come.
“Theo is an intelligent player with amazing ability and speed, and has developed extremely well this season,” he said. “We are all looking forward to see him grow even more in an Arsenal shirt.”

Weldone Theo, I am proud of u and the entire team. I believe the future is very bright for Arsenal football club. I urge all Arsenal fans globally to keep faith in this current team and pray the team remains intact with a lil resurging of the defence. Wenger is my man and will continue to be.I am happy boss with your youth policy, the positive result will become obvious from next season.

Wenger has been fantastic for AFC and we will start to see the benefits of his youth policy & vision especially with a few small additions in the summer.

Wake-Up. TW is not an Arsenal type Player. Poor control, Poor Delivery, Terrible first touch and cannot run with the ball – We should have sold him.

I usually don’t hit back at people’s thoughts here but, M. Johnson, what you just stated is utterly bullsh*t.

Well Randy Osae – Tell me what has Theo Done?
- He was a spectator against Man Utd( both legs)
- Is his control good?
- Is his first touch good?
- Are his crosses good?
- Can he beat a defender with the ball at his feet?
- How may times did he get round Evra? – Not once!
- Ok – You are going to tell me about the run against Liverpool in the CL last year – The fact that you mention that at not much else tells me he has done not much else.
- I am an Arsenal fan and the reality is – our brand of football is not suited to push and run players.

You’re obviously analyzing his quality on performances in solely Tuesday’s match and the first leg.
I do consider the trauma of disappointment the result has brought, but that does not imply that every under-performer in that tie is not worth their place in the team.
That’s a spineless point to argue with and I’m sorry, I involve myself and time in more concrete debates.

Randy, truth be told, theo should not be a starter @ arsenal.
M johnson is not wide off the mark with what he said except that theo is not arsenal material. Theo has not developed well enough to be a starter. He is a super sub in my opinion and I even said it before the game. Let him start from the bench to keep him more hungry as oppossed to starting him more often, making him feel like a starter which he shouldnt be right now. Some games he can start depending on the team but not a cl semis.
Even your article says it, “Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, said he expected Walcott to fulfil his potential in the years to come.

Anto lets not liken him to any of the players you mentioned, let him be himself. In my opinion, such comparisons bring a lot of disappointment especially when the player does not live up to the hype.
Theo does not have the type of skill does players had.How about he develop better skills than them rather than be like them? I personally dont like that jersey he puts on. There is and can only be one TH14.
As good a player as rooney or ronaldo is,they were never compared to anybody but yet they came good.
Let theo be his own man, which I believe he will become with time, but not just yet

As I was saying – Randy Osae. Theo is OK, However he is Not an Arsenal type player. How was his finishing today? How was his delivery? How was his decision making? I do not dislike Theo but this has been the same ALL season – Do you remember Nicolas Anelka at 17? Do you remember Michael Owen at 18(in the world cup finals)? Theo is now 20 and all people keep saying is he is young. The commentators say he should have had about 4 goals today! the inability to pass the ball to a team mate 10 yards away is poor. The reality is if Theo was NOT English he would Not be at the Emirates. We sold Alialidare, who I believe is a better player.
As an Arsenal fan I want Theo to do well as I wish ALL our players to do well, However he just is Not good enough.

Theo Walcott is HYPE.
14 goals in 100 matches and I gotta listen to people uttering his name in the same sentence with The King and Le Sulk…sorry…I call BS on that.
He is an one dimensional player…speed…which he still hasn’t learned to use effectively.
Evra tossed him around like a rag doll in the CL fixtures.
Everytime he gets the ball it is a mad dash to the byline and a blind cross smashed into the box.
He refuses to run at defenders, has no dribble and his shooting is criminal.
Sorry…at 60,000 pound a week for 4 years…Wenger just got hosed again on Walcott.
I know, I know…”he’s only 17 , I mean 18 , I mean 19, I mean 20″…see the pattern.
Its sad the way his defenders always make excuses about his age and boast about his solo run against Liverpool last year or his hat-trick against Croatia.
Slim resume if you ask me.
