New flag unleashed on Emirates crowd
Below is a shot of a sensational new Arsenal flag recently released to be waved at the Emirates Stadium.
Any flags with national symbols had been disallowed at Arsenal’s home ground due to complaints by some supporters but the club ruled last month to get things back to the old.
And some fans have used the returned advantage to show off this fine creation.

Agree with nickyx3 – who thought United on our flag was a good plan!!!? However, the idea is cool and it looks good. Who do we have from portugal? (or are we also covering reserves?)

Sorry but it looks more like a flag for Eurovision or some beauty contest. This simply doesn’t work I’m afraid. I seriously hope it is a photoshop job because it looks hideous. Instead of flags why not come up with a banner that yes doesn’t involve international politics?

I think its excellent. The use of the word united is unfortunate, but it doesn’t ruin the message. I like the fact its being unfurled at a UEFA game as its a proper 2 fingers to Platini and them other clowns.

I’m with those above who don’t like the use of the word ‘united’. But, I think that because of the wy the flag is laid out in the picture the top is what you see most and so the wirting is the most striking part, which makes the ‘united’ seem more significant than it is. Hopefully when laid out it will make a better overall impression. I do like the idea though.

I`m a English expat gooner living in Cyprus for the last 5 years never missed a game ( great sattelite coverage ) The flag that caused the offence was a Northern Cypriot Turkish flag. It dosn`t represent their country, because it isn`t one end of.The whole world and his dog don`t recognise it as a country because the Turks invaded Cprus in 1974 and is still to this day divided because the Turks stole the top half and killed thousands during the war.I try not to get involved with Cypriot politics too much however its not nice to see you country divided up Illegally then flaunting a bullshit flag which the UN and the rest of the free planet don`t recognise. Don’t mix politics with sports. Sports are meant to bring everyone irrespective of race,color and religion together. Arsenal is a football club and it promotes sports not a political agenda. Everything that is being done is solely for sports and nothing more to it.

As you can gather, this is a serious issue for some!
It must be stated that regarding flags, respect is indeed the only issue. How would you feel if there was a flag of al-Qaeda flying in our stadium? Disgusted is the only word I can think of… This is an extreme view but one to illustrate how we feel.
As for a German flag flying or any other flag I would welcome it with open arms.
It is not about which race conquered which race or who lived where first (Quite pathetic really and beside the point)
The point is respect for another individual and their culture. I am Greek Cypriot yet accept that Turkish Cypriots lived there and have a right to – there is no problem with that at all.

i like the idea. but i don’t like the flag. not enough thought gone into it i fear. for example the word united and the placement and choice of the national flags themselves.

Lets all get real here, a flag is a piece of material with a pattern on it at the end of the day. What is offensive is people dying not a piece of patterned material. Personally I would like to see skimpy underwear being waved by half naked ladies but that is another story. But if one of those ladies had a pattern on their thong or a terrorist slogan I do not think I would be looking at what she was waving anyway. Flags at football is a northern thing so why not leave united on it an post it up there where it belongs. Us londoners have much more class than that so personally I would not wave a flag or pass it around if you paid me.

I strongly feel such a banner is not necessary unless it will carry all flags of all countries where Arsenal has fans, and I guess that’s the whole world.

Was at the game and the flag look amazing. The united bit was made irrelevant by the whole context of the flag. The use of the old badge was nice too.

I would join the others in saying that politics has no place in sport – but a TRNC flag is not a political statement, its a proud person showing their pride in their country (and yes its a country, even if no other weak minded country apart from Turkey recognises it. The Arse are a truly multicultural team and have a truly muticultural support base – love that.

goonerbooner, as much as you dislike the idea, the north exists and is populated and it does have universitys which are recognised, there are greek cypriots who live in the pan handle quite happily and peacefully, oh yeah macedonia is a country which broke away from greece, same as alexander who had the macedonian empire not a greek one.
unfortunately the arrogance shown by some greeks is laughable, a country that is now famous for nothing more than souvlaki and that was stolen from the turks, repackaged. northern cyprus will be recognised no matter how much propaganda is written by the south. it is a thriving community and has a great tourism industry, many english people have houses in the north and live happily, get over it.
